How can anyone resist a bottle of Blue Lotus? The name itself evokes reverie of exotic gardens and mysterious, intoxicating flowers blooming in incense-smoldering night. The reality though, is a bit disappointing. The scent of the fresh lotus is indeed there, sweet and powdery, unfortunately, the rest of the bouquet is non-existent. Some green tea notes seem to accompany the Lotus but the overall effect isn't a compelling presence. Sandalwood wafts wistfully as the tea retreats, a meek companion to the sweet, powdery scent of the Lotus as the flower sleeps. Having experienced Blue Lotus, I have come to appreciate how difficult it is to capture/headshop the scent of the Lotus, and how difficult it is to compose a perfume around this unusual, sweet but elusive center. This is still a pretty EdT, a little stronger than most of the Roger & Gallet colognes, but it is far away from the idea of a mysterious, seductive flower.
So green and aquatic; a bit sparkling.... Citrus note is not loud And lotus is really fine... A nice offer for the ones seeking freshness without tea or ozone...
A good, summery scent with bright, crisp citrus in the top, pretty florals in the middle (including the unusual blue lotus note), and a smooth, oriental base. This is a good fresh scent that is acceptably circumspect for a man to wear discreetly. It's well and truly uplifting and energizing, redolent of sunshine and gardens and pleasant company in a relaxed and warm setting. Sweet without being cloying, it soothes and calms and sets the heart at ease.
I wear some R&G scents: Vetyver, Extra Vielle, Bouquet Imperiale, Ginger. To my masculine taste, those are dry enough that I enjoy them. Lotus Bleu is a beautiful scent but – no surprise – I find it to be feminine and thus outside my style. Thus, I can report that it is quite sweet, floral, pretty. The floral notes are big, even rich. The patchouli is sweet. Not much wood here. I think this is one of the 'bigger' R&Gs in terms of fragrance presence. Since I have to position the thumb I'll put it sideways, but this is an attractive scent for women.
I bought this blind at a funny drugstore simply because of the beautiful art deco bottle, the great name (of a Tintin comic!) and the ridiculously low price (for something so nice-looking). My bottle of Antonia's Flowers was running low and I wanted something to wear all summer. Turns out this was a perfect choice, and now, even after "Perfumes: The Guide" turned my nascent interest into a full-blown obsession and I've started a collection, this still stands out as a great every-day scent. (such a pity they didn't review it!) It's perfect for hot weather because it has a fresh, cologne-like quality. It is not sweet or fruity and yet it is not dry, either. Rather it is beautifully balanced and definitely has a watery aspect without being at all "marine." There are soft herb-like and even tea-like qualities and the drydown has a soft woodiness. However, the whole is much more than the sum of the parts, and the whole is delicious. I hope more people will seek this out as an alternative to the more obvious.
